Dear friend,
I recently had a writing project I sat down to start, but I had actually zero ideas for this story.
*gasp* That’s a problem: the writer with no story ideas.
Never fear. I popped over to my favorite interwebs place Pinterest and scrolled some story prompts and inspirational screenshots.
The lesson: You don’t always have to do the work to dig out inspiration from the recesses of your “little grey cells” (as Detective Poirot calls them). You’re allowed to use prompts or inspiration from things other people have done.
Speaking of prompts.
The Challenge
My friends over at The Company are running a spring writing challenge called…
*wait for it*
Shocker, I know.
The challenge begins on April 21 and runs for six weeks. Each week will have a different writing prompt, which you’ll use to write a short story under 1,000 words.
“What’s the challenge?” you ask.
When you sign up (it’s free btw), you’ll be randomly sorted into one of two teams where you’ll do some competing and whatnot. You’ll also get access to some writing lessons from Brad Pauquette and weekly Zoom hype meetings with your team.
“That’s great, RJ,” you say, “But what’s the good part?”
Well, I’ll tell you.
If you complete all six story prompts, you’ll win a cool sloth sticker! They’ll even send it to you in the mail and everything.
Still not convinced?
Go check out the cool sloth sticker here and you will be!
Don’t do it for me. Do it for the sloth.
Sincerely,
R. J. Catlin
P. S. You wanna know the ironic part of this? The story I was struggling with was for this challenge.
