Dear friend,

While I’m not going back on what I said in my last article about trusting God for inspiration (because you definitely should), it is still important to live in such a way that you have inspiration around you to draw from. These are five easy ways to incorporate inspirational living in your day-to-day.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a great place to find inspiration. From getting new recipes to styling outfits, and from art techniques to story inspiration, Pinterest has an abundance of inspiration from creative people around the world. Just make sure you don’t get stuck scrolling. Do something with the stuff you find!

History

I recently visited the Loveland Castle in Ohio and what a neat experience! The history I learned about the castle and the man who built it gave me a couple of story ideas.

Learn about history. Visit historical locations. Go to museums. All of these are great places for inspiring your creativity.

Pick an era or location. Who were the artists or architects in that time period? What inspired them? What do you like and dislike about the art and architecture?

Books

I’ve written about books being great sources of inspiration before, but I’ll say it again. What you read has so much influence on your creativity! The more you read, the more material you have to pull from later.

Books are easy to incorporate into your daily life and are super versatile. You can read audiobooks, physical books, and ebooks. There’s fiction and non-fiction. Sometimes it’s the story that’ll inspire you. Other times it’s simply the cover, or the concept.

People

The people around you are a great resource. As it turns out, they have brains that have the powerful capability to solve problems. Who would have guessed, right?

But seriously, I can’t tell you how many times my friends have helped me work through a plot hole, or the other artists in my family have inspired me to grow in my own art. The more you surround yourself with the people you want to be like, the more you’ll want to be like them. (Vella Karman has some great articles on the impact of the people around you which you can read here.)
